Kennedy Trail Tree

The New Year is upon us and I have been focused on setting some goals (both spiritually and financially) for next year. I have scheduled a few more events to finish out this calendar year and I am hoping to squeeze one or two more in as time goes by. Here is what I am hoping to accomplish the next year:

  1. Complete the Hel Anthology I will be starting for NaNoWriMo. I am not so much as concerned about writing the whole thing in November but rather, use November to get motivated and really dive into it. Finishing it can come later in the year. I do want to finish it. Whether it’s published or not remains to be seen.
  2. Have my student curriculum finished and take on students (even if it’s just one person!).
  3. Boost my writing endeavors. I am making a bit of money now and would like to see it grow. These articles are typically not spiritual in nature and that is fine. I can’t make it ALL about spirituality ALL the time.
  4. Start a Patreon account. I am considering offering up prayers, rituals, and videos on my workshops. A majority of it will be content offered up to students and so it’s not extra content creation.
  5. Travel more. I really like having a home base but I really want to spread my wings and see my distant community. I am thinking that by the time my son moves out on his own, I could very well be living nomadically. But that’s a bit too far ahead of the goals to really worry about.

New Shop!

How exciting! I am now going to be reading at a local shop called Instant Karma West! We are going to give it a run this month and see how things go. I will be over there one Saturday and 3 Wed evenings for the trial run. Realistically we won’t see a big turn out as it takes a little time to get established. But once it happens, I am hoping to see it grow. There is also potential to work at the downtown location as well. I am super excited about adding a new shop to the list. I will still be at Asheville Raven & Crone often, I am just adding to my calendar. I am hoping by end of year to add at least two more locations to work out of.

Do check out my updated Events page to see what is happening during your free time 🙂

Halloween Crafting Has Begun!

Those that know me in real life, know that I love Halloween and I especially love Halloween DIY projects. I was perusing my Halloween Board on Pinterest recently and decided that I really wanted to create some Altered Halloween Books.

In a nutshell, you upcycle a used book with rubber halloween-ish type doodads and puffy letters. I went to Goodwill Outlet near my office where they sell books at 69 cents a pound. I very quickly grabbed 6 books that felt like they had the right shape. I didn’t look at titles, just based it on their age and shape. One old book grabbed my attention and when I got home and ready to craft…….I learned it was The Great Gatsby. I decided NOT to upcycle that one. I mean really, how can you? It’s residing peacefully on my bookshelf.

All of the lettering and spooky stuff gets hot glued to the book. The thumbtacks in the corner of my book were easily pressed in and then hammered to be sure it wouldn’t budge. The spider was the most difficult part since it doesn’t lay flat. I really didn’t think this was going to turn out all that great because of it. Anyway, we placed a paper towel over the entire top and using a wet paintbrush, brushed the paper towel into place. Then did the other side. The instructions I had said to lay a wet towel over the book but I found that way more difficult than what we chose to do. After that, Modge Podge was applied and allowed to dry. Then we painted it all black. Then we accented it with copper metallic paint and gold metallic paint. It really did turn out fantastic!

Not sure what will be next. Maybe something involving candle holders. Or I might hold off and not add anything to my already busy repertoire. What I do know is that I will make more books and probably  offer them on my Etsy shop.

Happy Crafting!!!

The World Of Freelance

by angela 0 Comments

So I have been a busy bee finding legitimate writing gigs. It’s awfully hard considering that many sites you pitch and compete with others over rates. Thus driving  your pay down because the client wants the fastest and cheapest option. I simply cannot sell myself that short. But I am finally connecting with some people and finding real sites with real options. I am waiting to hear back  from a couple of connections on whether or not I will be doing some work for them. Pitching is scary work. I don’t feel like I am the greatest at selling myself to anyone. But since it’s all done by written word, it’s easier.

With Mercury going direct, communications very quickly cleared up and suddenly things were getting set up. Not necessarily in the freelance world, rather my personal life. And that is fantastic as the last 2 months have been incredibly frustrating and awful. So I am hoping with those things finally clearing up, my efforts at freelancing will start to see some fruition. I am not expecting tons and tons of work to start, I am reminding myself to be realistic. But overall, I just want to see something land my way soon.

I also have been dealing with this urge to write something book wise. I don’t know what it is. Someone a long time ago suggested that I write about my journey into my life now. But is my life THAT interesting? I don’t know. Still trying to figure out what that thing is that is gnawing at the back of my head.

I have some fantastic events coming up, some you can see on the Events Page. My stuff for this weekend is not. I am doing a class with some folks in which we begin studying the Viking Language. I am super excited about this! I already started some of the studies but I have yet to actually hear any of the language being spoken so that I am lacking. But I figured we might get to go over that on Saturday. Sunday we are celebrating Mabon at the Temple. Cannot wait. I miss my congregation like crazy. Feels like I haven’t seen them in forever. Which isn’t true, just saw them at full moon!

That’s it for now. Hoping to have more to chat about on Monday 🙂

On The Radio

Over a year ago, I did a fantastic radio show and even did a reading online. I highly encourage checking out the link and listening in. It’s especially helpful for people who have not had a reading done, actually listen. It can alleviate a lot of fears 🙂

My Shop Is Live

I have opened an Etsy shop! Angie’s Divine Things will feature one of a kind altar cloths that I create in my spare time. I am also making scrying mirrors each month to sell. I am not doing any kind of custom work as I don’t have the time to add that to my already busy schedule. Plus, to be painfully honest, I really don’t want to do custom work. My knitting tends to be on the fly and quite random.

I am slowly getting myself started as a content writer and I am hoping that it takes off soon. I am also working hard at finding new shops to read at so that I am spread out around town and filling in some empty spots.

I at least feel like I am in a good place!

New Changes

So I am sitting in my new office space (which is not as glamorous as it sounds) and working hard at a list of things I need to get done while waiting for start up funds to clear for my new job. One of those things was to update things around here in this space. I have added a page in regards to services I offer. I did not include taking on students as I am still working on that and will add it as I get things more refined with that. I am also trying to tidy up the appearance. My biggest beef is that the font is too light considering the background. So I might just need to change the background so that the words are easier to read. Not sure yet. My friend, whom I usually run to for this sort of thing, is quite busy. So perhaps in the next week I can get that sorted.

I did change my header. I adored the Freyja header but once I removed a couple of unnecessary buttons from it, it got weird looking. So I am on the hunt for a new Freyja header. I might have to create it myself and I have no idea how well that will turn out. I am going to sit with my mountains header for just a bit while I get that worked out.

In the meantime, it’s off to Etsy to create a shop for all my scrying mirrors and knitted goodies. Didn’t make any mirrors this month, but that’s okay. I will have time to make more before October Full Moon.

All Sorts Of Updates

The big news is, I went through Clergy Orientation/Training at the local hospital. It will make it so much easier for me to access our pagan/non-Christian community members who are in the hospital and wish to have clergy be with them for spiritual guidance or rites before procedures. I am super excited about this and look forward to being of service.

I have updated my Events Page with all of my scrying sessions, workshops, and rituals for the year. This week I will finish writing all of those workshops and rites up so that I can begin working on my curriculum for teach Witchcraft. I am hoping that I will be kicking off the lessons by Jan 1. Since this is a new venture for me, I am a bit nervous about it.

I am also looking into learning Old Norse to help further my magic and rites to the Old Gods. I will be starting this month but my schedule is so hectic that I really won’t be knee deep into it until November.

On the business front I am working hard at streamlining registration for workshops online. I have set up my invoicing systems on Square and people can now pay online securely and through the same app I use on my phone. Having it all in one place will be lovely! I am hoping to figure out how to make gift certificates so that people can purchase those in the holiday season.

Busy busy busy! It’s that time of year and I love it!

Keeping That Momentum Going

With all the stuff taking place, I am still moving forward and getting things done. Always feels good to be getting things done! Most recently I was interviewed for the Charm The Water podcast. Interviews always turn out great but I tend to be sooooo terribly nervous. I want to be that very fluid speaker but my brain and mouth seem to be detached. And my brain moves much faster! Anywho, it will be nice if I can squeeze in another interview this year (but after October LOL!).

Yesterday I did my clergy training at the hospital. I need to get a letter of appointment from our temple council to turn in and I get my badge next week. What this means is that I can gain access to almost every part of the hospital to be with any congregant. There are a few exceptions to that but not many. Being at the hospital will mean that anyone in our spiritual community (including those of you who are visiting us and have an unfortunate emergency) can request me to come and hold prayer, sacred space, anoint, or just chat, to assist in your healing process. This also means that if someone asks me to visit you because they are worried for you, I can go. BUT. You can also refuse me at any time. Overall I am excited but also nervous at learning the hospital process and making sure I don’t step on toes.

I have also gotten the rest of the calendar year planned at the shop. I added one event to the calendar here but due to my computer not wanting to cooperate, I have to wait to add the rest. In addition to readings, I have plenty of workshops coming. Baba Yaga, Krampus, and a ritual for Frau Holle are in the works. So much win for 2016!

Will post more soon and get the other events added within the week. Or at least I hope to. Blessed Be!

Updates and New Stuff

So I recently had a meeting with a contact at the local hospital about volunteering to sit vigil with the dying, particularly those alone. Looks like I have a few hoops to jump through and initially I was overwhelmed by that. But ultimately I decided that those hoops are in place to make sure that I am very determined to do what I am called to do. So the very next step is to do some clergy training at the hospital and get a clergy badge for admittance. Then I will talk some more with them on how to volunteer my time and how I fit into their chaplain program that is already in place. I certainly won’t be making any money at this but I think it’s a fantastic start anyway. I still have a long list of people to talk to and just haven’t had the time.

I also had a friend contact me about a possible business venture downtown. I won’t be revealing what that is just yet but we are researching what we need to do to get that into place. Right now it’s something seasonal. Who knows what direction it could go in! But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves here.

Life threw me a curveball recently and I am reeling from it. But I am hanging on to those things that I am called to do and embracing that not only am I one tough chick, but I am also one really smart chick. I will get through this somehow. I have been repeatedly told that I am made for challenges. It would just be nice to experience an easy time for longer than a few months.

I don’t want to end this on a bad note so my gratitude for today is awesome friends, resourcefulness, and the Divines. I couldn’t do this without any one of them.
